 On
the 29th of November 2000 the World Heritage Committee inscribed
the greater Blue Mountains area on the World Heritage List. Kooyong
is positioned directly alongside the Blue Mountains National Park,
which forms part of this World Heritage Listing. A short walk along
the bush track, which leads into the National Park, opens up views
of the Jamison Valley and Mt. Solitary, with distant views towards
Mt. Gibraltar and the Southern Highlands. A further short walk along
the bush track will take you into the walking trails of the Lyre
Bird Dell and pool of Siloam circuit.
Aboriginal
habitation in this area has been confirmed over 8,000 years ago,
and a large overhanging rock in Lyre Bird Dell was a shelter used
by local Aboriginals. The Dell and the Pool of Siloam provide a
cool moist atmosphere with the walk through the small canyon, featuring
rainforest and heathlands.
Return to Kooyong and enjoy the contrast of the
natural landscape, gums and eucalypts of the National Park, with
the garden and European deciduous trees of Kooyong.
